The research carried out by this programme seeks to optimise the production process of stone and pip fruits (mainly peach, apple, pear, apricot and cherry), nuts (almond, walnuts and hazelnut), citrus, vineyards and agroforestry products such as pine nut and wood. A primary question is determining the performance (yield and fruit quality) of different cultivars, clones and rootstocks for most of the aforementioned crops. There are five breeding programmes on apple, peach, pear, almond and pear rootstock, which will have an important impact on the fruit industry.
The Fruit Production programme gives advice to various designations of origin and oil mills in their olive oil quality improvement programmes and takes an active part in the Official Virgin Olive Oil Tasting Panel of the Government of Catalonia. At the same time, we give technical and agronomical advice to fruit growers and companies to improve their orchards or production system.
