Optimization of diagnosis and treatment of post-weaning diarrhoea in pigs: towards the rational use of antibiotics

Starting date: 01/01/2019 End date: 31/12/2021
Programme: Animal health

Financing entities:

The aim of this project is to optimize both, the tools for the diagnostics of post-weaning diarrhoea and conventional treatment strategies to maximize therapeutic efficacy and minimize selection of resistant microorganisms. Therefore, we will try to determine which antimicrobial families commonly prescribed for the treatment of post-weaning diarrhoea (PWD) have a minimal impact in the resistome and bacteriome of piglets after weaning and suffering from colibacilosis. The best antimicrobial treatment obtained in the experimental farm in terms of reduce impact in the resistome and best outcome for the animals, will be validated in conventional farms
