The objectives of this project are:
- To increase knowledge and to develop new tools for the identification, detection and characterization of fungal pathogens causing diseases on almond, and also for their beneficial symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi.
- To study the epidemiology of aerial fungal diseases of almond, with a special emphasis in all aspects related to the infection and dispersion processes, and by including disease modelling.
- To develop and to optimize practical and efficient methods to control aerial and root fungal diseases by combining the use of mycorrhizal fungi, the characterization of cultivar susceptibility and genetic resistance, crop and fungicide management, and the use of epidemiological models.
